Club Notes for Friday 24th Feb 2012

Longford Coaching and Games Development are holding a Coaching and Games Conference on Saturday February 25th at the Clonguish GAA complex commencing at 10am and finishing with light lunch at 1pm. This conference is geared toward skill development of underage players varying in ages from 8 to 18 years.  Workshops will be given by imminent GAA coaches such as Paudie Butler, Pat O Shea, Phillip Kerr and Brendan Bolger. This will be free for all participants.  Anyone interested in attending please contact 087 2437683.  We hope to have a coach instruction night in the near future which will be given by Longford Coaching and Games Development coaches. Sincere condolences to the Gray Family Moyne and McNerney family Legga on their recent bereavements. Lotto results for Monday night 13th Feb 2012. The numbers drawn were 10, 14, 17 and 28. There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the draw were Pauline Reilly, Caroline Martin, Bridie McCabe and Ronan McStay. The seller's prize was won by John O'Toole. The monthly club meeting for February will take place next Monday night 27th February at 9.30pm after the weekly lotto draw.

Well done to Longford seniors who came out on top against our neighbours Cavan in Breffni Park on Saturday night last. Our seniors had a useful challenge against Gortletteragh on Sunday last. Secondary leagues will be starting in the next couple of weeks. On this Friday 17th February there is a goalkeeping workshop geared to 14 year old to adult given by our own Damien Sheridan from 7.30 pm to 9pm on the astro turf pitch in Drumlish. Well done to Longford seniors who had a convincing win over Offaly in the first round of the Allianz football league in Pearse Park on Sunday last.  Best of luck when they travel to Breffni Park to take on Cavan in round two on Saturday next.  Hard luck to Peter Masterson and Paul McGee who were with Athlone IT panel who were defeated in the Sigerson cup during the past week. There are a couple of coaching workshops that would be of benefit to people interested in coaching coming up shortly.  On this Thursday February 9th a workshop takes place covering "Functional training for club players" and will be delivered by Longford's strength and conditioning coach Dave Hare at Pearse Park from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.  On Friday February 17th there is a goalkeeping workshop geared to 14 year old to adult given by our own Damien Sheridan from 7.30pm to 9.00pm on the astro turf pitch in Drumlish. Players in all senior grades should ensure that that they have paid their insurance/club membership as soon as possible before the commencement of the playing season. Many players have already done so, but for those who have yet to pay, club registrars will be in attendance at this week’s training sessions. They will also be available in the club house on Sunday morning next following 11.30am Mass. Non playing as well as playing members can pay then. Lotto results for Monday night 30th Jan 2012. As part of an initiative to help promote the Irish Language within the G.A.A. and the wider community Longford County Board are offering grants of €250 to students to attend Gaeltacht courses. Applicants must be 13 years of age on 1st January 2012 and will be selected by interview in February/March. Closing date for applications is 3rd February. Contact a member of the executive for application forms or further information. ' Hard luck to Longford u21s who went down to Cavan in the Hasting Cup final on Saturday last after a gallant display. Best of luck to Damien and Francis and their Longford senior team mates when they take on Offaly in Pearse Park on Sunday next in the opening round of the National Football league. Minor AGM takes place on Friday next at 8.30pm in the clubhouse. Sincere sympathies to the Martin family Drumhaldry on the passing of Pat Martin during the past week. The 1st Anniversary Mass for Cian Smith will be celebrated in Colmcille on Friday evening next 3rd February at 7pm. Lotto results for Monday night 23rd Jan 2012. The numbers drawn were 2, 4, 13 and 23. There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the draw were Michael Masterson (Cornakelly), Rose Smith, Jamsie Martin and Michael Cadden. Club membership/insurance is now due and needs to be paid up before the end of January we particularly urge all players to do this as their insurance for the year is included in the membership. This can be paid to club registrars P.J Berry 087-2592827 Alan McLoughlin 086-3537086 and Bernie Greene. The clubhouse will be open on Sundays from 12.00am to 1.00pm to facilitate payment. Health and Safety Regulations require that Longford County Board must provide accredited stewards at all future games in Pearse Park. This includes the upcoming All Ireland Club semi final on 18th February between Garycastle, Westmeath and St. Brigid's, Roscommon and the Leinster Championship opener v. Laois in May. To this end Leinster Council GAA have confirmed that they will conduct a training seminar on Saturday, 11th February next in Pearse Park commencing with registration at 10am. All clubs are requested to send at least three individuals to complete this 1 day course on or before Friday, 27th January next. Contact Chairman, Joe Murphy (087)1340132 or secretary, Willie Healy (087) 0623673 to put your name forward for this course. Dromard G.A.A is running a CPR AED training course on Saturday 4th February starting at 10.00am. All those interested please give their names to Susan Murphy 087 2125145 by Monday 30th January. Lotto results for Monday 16th January 2012. The numbers drawn were 6, 22, 23 and 28. The winners of the draw were Regina Conboy, Danny O'Toole, Laura Martin and Angela Doherty. The seller's prize was won by Geraldine Bleakley, Moyne Cross Stores. Dromard G.A.A January meeting takes place on Monday night next the 30th starts at 9.30 sharp following the weekly lotto draw finishes at 10.30. Please attend. If your child is interested in going to the Gaeltacht this year, the G.A.A have a grant scheme in place over the past number of years and this year the scheme will be continued. More information and application forms will be available at next Monday nights meeting. Best of luck to the Longford under 21's who play Cavan in the Hasting Cup final on Saturday next in Abbeylara. Best of luck goes to Enda and Ciaran Macken who will be managing the senior teams of Rathcline and Castlerahan respectively for the forthcoming season. The club offers it's sympathies to the Taaffe family Legga on the passing of John Taaffe after an illness. John passed away in Dublin having previously spent a number of years in New York. John had a strong interest in Gaelic games and was a keen follower of the fortunes of his native Dromard and Longford. May he rest in peace.

The county final of Senior SCOR is due to take place on the weekend of 25th/26th Feb 2012. Anyone wanting to take part or to help out in any way please contact the SCOR Officer, Peter Masterson at 0833051786. Anyone wishing to help out with adult or underage teams in the club please contact 087 2437683. Well done to Longford under 21's who got the better of Roscommon in Clonbonny on Saturday last. Cathal Conefrey is a selector with this group. Hard luck to Longford seniors who went down to DCU on Sunday last. We wish Francis Mc Gee a speedy recovery from an injury he sustained early in Sunday's game. Well done to Peter Masterson and Paul Mc Gee who both played with Athlone IT against Wicklow in Aughrim on Sunday last. The game went to extra time with the home side coming out on top at the end. As mentioned in last week's notes, membership fees for 2012 are now due. We offer our sincere condolences to the Corrigan family Legga on the passing of John Corrigan late of Richmond St. Longford. John lined out with his native Dromard for a number of years. John showed his football abilities by winning a Junior championship in Westmeath where he was then based with his welding and fabricating trade. When John returned to Longford to set up his own business he served dutifully as our county board delegate for many years. Sincere sympathies also go to the Creegan family Crott on the passing of Michael Creegan in Florida over the past weekend. Michael was part of a very committed GAA family and lined out in the Dromard colours in his youth before emigrating to New York where he settled. Lotto results: Draw for 19th Dec 2012. We would like to remind members that club membership for 2012 is now due. Membership fees are as follows: €30 for non-playing members, €50 (including insurance) for playing members and €30 (including insurance) for student players. We particularly encourage all playing members to have their membership paid up by 31st January 2012 as their membership includes their insurance for the year. We cannot stress enough the fact that all players should be insured before the commencement of the season. Players should pay their membership/insurance to Alan McLoughlin (086-3537086). All other members can pay their insurance to any of the three registrars, Bernie Greene, Alan McLoughlin or PJ Berry (087- 2592827). Well done to Longford on securing a hard earned win against a well-organised Athlone IT outfit on Sunday last in Ballymahon in the O'Byrne Cup. We had representatives on both sides with Francis McGee in good scoring form with Longford and Damien Sheridan on the substitute bench while Peter Masterson and Paul McGee lined out with the students. Well done to all. Longford now advance to play DCU next weekend. Minor AGM takes place Friday January 20th January 2012 in clubhouse at 9pm. An anniversary Mass takes place in Colmcille church this Friday 13th January at 7pm for Sean McNerney.

We would like to welcome home the many exiles who have returned to spend Christmas with their families and we hope that their stay will be enjoyable for all. Congratulations to Michael and Liz O Reilly on the birth of their baby boy during the past week. As the year comes to a close we would like to extend a sincere thanks to all our players and team managements for all their commitment in 2011 and a sincere thanks to everyone who helped out in any way with running and supporting our club during the past year. We wish all our players and supporters a very happy and peaceful Christmas. Thanks also to the Longford Leader, the Hoganstand website and the Longford GAA website for publishing our club notes throughout the year. The AGM of Dromard GAA senior club is scheduled to take place on Friday 30th December 2011 at 8pm. A good turnout will be appreciated. In conjunction with Jigscenes.com, Dromard GAA have produced a number of children's jigsaws for the Christmas market. The proceeds from this will go towards youth coaching and games development in the club. Jigscenes.com is a company set up by local clubman Bernard Smith, Fyhora along with brothers John and Gearóid Reilly from Gowna. Any photo submitted to them can be produced in jigsaw format. Bernard can be contacted at 087 6916808. The jigsaws are available in the local shops. We would also like to wish Michael Reynolds a speedy recovery from his illness which required him to spend a spell in hospital last week. Lotto Results for Monday 12th December 2011.
