National Football League: Congratulations to Diarmuid Masterson and the Longford senior footballers and their great win over neighbours Westmeath on Sunday last in Pearse Park. The victory was Longford’s fourth of the campaign and secured the county’s Division 3 status for another year. In a very competitive division, this is a great achievement for all the players and management. Well done to Enda Macken, Denis Connerton and especially to the Dromard representatives for their dedication to the County Team during a tough league campaign. Best of luck to the panel and management in their preparations for the upcoming Leinster Championship against Offaly.

Sympathy: Dromard GAA would like to extend its sympathy to the Reynolds family, Corglass, on the recent passing of Margaret Reynolds (nee Duignan). The Club sends its condolences to Margaret’s husband Aidan, daughter Teresa and son Aidan.

Domard 0-7 Clonguish 3-14: Dromard were defeated by Clonguish on St Patrick’s Day in Páirc na nGael in the first round of the league. With a number of regulars not available, Dromard always played second fiddle to a sharp and accurate Clonguish team. Dromard lined out as follows: Gavin McNerney, David Pettit, James Mimnagh, Kevin Donohoe, Michael Reilly, Peter Masterson, Peter Reynolds, Bernard Sheridan, Pauric Martin, Bryan McCormack, Francis McGee, Sean McNerney, James Martin, Peter Mimnagh, Niall Kelly. Subs: Peadar Kiernan, Damien Sheridan, Emmet Masterson, Niall McManus, Martin McGee.

Senior League Division 3, Round 1: Our Division 3 panel took on Killoe in their first game of the year on Sunday last in a game played in fine sunny conditions. Despite putting in a good effort throughout, Dromard were unable to match a very strong Killoe team on this occasion. As this was the first game of the year, Dromard were missing a number of regulars from last year’s panel who should hopefully be available for the next Division 3 game. The team lined out as follows: Oisin Hourican, James Conefrey, Cathal Conefrey, Thomas Conefrey, Michael Reynolds, Ronan Smith, Alan McLaughlin, Sean McNerney, Martin McGee, John McNaboe, Peter Mimnagh, Jimmy Kiernan, Barry Smith, Donal Conefrey, Patrick Mimnagh.

Reserve League 1, Round 3: Dromard’s next fixture in this competition is on Friday next (Good Friday) against Clonguish at Allen Park at 8pm.

National Football League: Best of luck to the Longford senior footballers and the Dromard representatives in their penultimate Division 3 fixture versus Clare in Ennis on Sunday next.

Strictly Come Dancing: Dromard GAA’s big fundraiser for 2016 is our “Strictly Come Dancing” show which will take place on Friday 29th April in the Slieve Russell Hotel, with the launch night to be held shortly. The organising committee is working hard behind the scenes, with most of the dancers now confirmed. Please put the date in your diary and watch out for tickets which will be on sale soon.

Golden Jubilee Celebration: CLG Coiste Chontae Longfort are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Longford winning the National Football League in 1966. The night will also honour our one and only Leinster Senior Football Championship success of 1968. It takes place on Saturday, 16th April next in The Longford Arms Hotel. Proceedings will commence at 7.30pm with a wine reception followed by dinner. Tickets are available from the GAA Offices at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

Safe Talk: Congratulations to all those who completed the Safe Talk training in the club house recently. Dromard is the first club in Longford to have completed the Sport Your Mind project which includes the completion of Safetalk. Anyone interested in completing the course should contact Dermot Reilly or Mary O'Reilly.

Swimming World: Nicola from Slimming World in Arvagh would like to wish all her members and their families a very happy Easter.  Classes continue every Wednesday at 5.30 and 7.30 in Memorial Hall in Arvagh, all new members are very welcome to join our lovely group.   Please call Nicola for any further information ph: 0833428231.

Lotto results: Last week’s results for 14th March 2016 are held over until next week’s notes.

Dromard Ladies Notes

Results/Fixtures: No club action this week for Dromard which was probably handy as the County Panels were all involved in matches far and wide from u/14 up to senior. Great credit should go to the managers and selectors of these panels as they ferry their charges the length and breadth of the country to give them a high level of competition. We should also thank our own players and their parents for the sacrifices they make to wear their county jersey. It is nice to see Dromard represented on u/14,u/16,Minor and Senior panels, and this can only do them good as they seek to become better players. Well done girls.

The underage Championships get underway this week. Thurs 24th March our u/16 panel are away to Mostrim. Please be togged out and on the pitch by 5pm girls ready for a 5.30pm throw in. Anyone who has any problems getting over to Edgworthstown please let Mairead know asap and she will sort you a lift. Our Seniors are also scheduled out on Easter Sunday 27 March and Sean will let you have full details as soon as we know. Easter Monday our u/12 panel are away to St. Helen's in Monaduff, and Helen will let you know what time to be on their pitch. Once again if there are any problems getting there, let her know asap so that she can find you a lift.

It would be much appreciated if the parents of these panels could make themselves available to help the managers on the day,as Laura and Bernie are now missing until Tues 5th April so we will be a bit short in the backroom staff department!!!

Birthday Greetings: We wish a very Happy Birthday to the following girls who will be celebrating in the next couple of weeks, bearing in mind there will be no notes due to holidays and we want to ensure that they get a mention. Rebecca Duffy from our Senior Panel, Aine Smith from our u/16's, Louise Tierney from our u/12's and by no means least Eleanor O'Reilly from our u/10's. Make sure to enjoy your day girls.

County Matters: Well done to Mairead Reynolds and her team mates on their one point victory over Wicklow at the Clonguish Grounds on Sunday. This was Wicklow's first defeat in the league this year and so was a big confidence boost to the Longford girls. They now travel down to Carlow this week for round 4. Good Luck girls and keep that winning streak going!

Thanks to Grattans for thinking to ask Mairead as joint County Captain to attend their social night on Sunday last and present the medals to last season's U/16 Championship winning side. She told us she felt really honoured to be asked and hopefully she will inspire these Grattan's girls to step up to become Longford Senior players in the not too distant future.

Throw in is at 12:30pm at Pairc Na nGael and we welcome all support from the parish and surrounding areas as we look to get the season off to a winning start (although Ballymahon/Forgney may have something to say about that of course). The following pricing structure will apply: €15 per child, €40 for a family.

Comhgairdeas: Well done to our u16 amalgamation of St. Francis/St. Vincents (Na Naomh) who had a fantastic one point victory over Mullingar Shamrocks in their debut game in the Leinster league. Dromard Ladies Notes

Underage Training: At long last girls we will be back on the training pitch fo the coming season. From this Saturday all underage girls from the 8yr olds to the 16 yr olds are invited back to the Astroturf from 10:00am to 11:00am for an hour of fun and football with some of our senior panel training you. Spread the word at school and make sure everybody from last year returns, and also try to bring a few new faces along as well. You know we are a friendly bunch so try and encourage your friends to come and join us. For any parents of girls who will be turning 8 this year who would like to see how we run and what we are about, just tip along to the Astroturf at 10am this Saturday where you are sure of a warm welcome and your daughters are sure of an hours fun and games. We look forward to seeing everybody returning, and if you all bring the same enthusiasm as last year we are guaranteed another good season surely.

Senior/Minor Training: This is continuing apace with decent numbers at all sessions. It is especially good to see some of our Mammys at these sessions and we hope you are getting a lot of enjoyment from it. From what we have seen some of you are still good enough to make the Panel !!!

Apology: In last week's notes I wrote that Dromard had no representation on the County U/14 Panel. Big mistake,as of course we have Karen McLoughlin and Shauna Hagan on that Panel. Hard Luck girls at the weekend against Offaly where I am told the wind won out on the day, making it almost impossible to get up the field. Still take heart from a good first half where you were six points up before finally succumbing to a good Offaly side.

Birthdays: Only one to my knowledge this week and that is Emer Brady from our U/10 Panel who turns 9 first week in March.Happy Birthday Emer and don't forget to ask all your friends who might not yet have played football to come on Saturday and give it a try.

Congratulations: Well done to our Joint Senior Club Captain Mairead Reynolds on being made Longford County Captain. This is a great honour for herself and Dromard and is great reward for all the hours she puts in both on and off the field not only with her own panels but also with all the underage children at training and matches. Always one to shy away from the limelight we just want to say how much all our young ones look up to you and this honour could not befall a nicer person. Well done Mairead from all in Dromard.

O’Byrne Cup: Commiserations to Diarmuid Masterson, Francis and Paul McGee and the rest of the Longford panel and their defeat to Meath in the final. Best of luck to the three Dromard representatives and all involved for the league campaign.

Hastings Cup: Hard luck to the County U21 team on their narrow defeat to Cavan in the semi-final on Friday evening last. Despite this result, the competition once again provided very useful games for the U21 panel ahead of the upcoming Leinster U21 football championship.

AGM: The Senior Club AGM was held on Sunday last the 13th of December in the Clubhouse with a good attendance present, including some senior and junior players.

The outgoing Chairman, Anthony Maguire, and Secretary, Dermot Reilly, presented their review of Club activities in 2015. The Chairman noted that it was a challenging year for the club on and off the field but highlighted areas of progress including the success of the annual lotto drive and the astro turf facility. The Chairman thanked Enda Macken and the outgoing senior management team for their contribution to the club and all those who helped out with the club’s junior, under 21, minor and underage teams. The Chairman also thanked the many people who contribute to the running of the club in various ways including in particular Kevin Hourican, Bernie Greene, Thomas Donohoe and many others who helped out during the year.

The Secretary’s report covered the Club’s on-field activities in 2015. Overall Dromard’s fortunes were mixed this year with the senior team again highly competitive, finishing third in Division 1 of the league and reaching the knock-out stages of the championship, before suffering a disappointing loss to eventual winners Killoe in the semi-final following a run of consecutive fixtures. After a disappointing Division 3 campaign, Dromard’s very encouraging performances in the junior championship were acknowledged and it is hoped that the progress made with this team in 2015 can be built on next year. Thanks to the management team of Gerry Sheridan, Peter Mimnagh, Con McLoughlin, Aidan Gray and Danny O'Toole for their work and effort with this panel all year.

The financial report for 2015 was presented by Treasurer Frank Smith.

The election of club officers saw Michael Reilly take over from outgoing Chairman Anthony Maguire. Dermot Reilly, who fulfilled the role of Secretary for two years, was not seeking re-election to that post. James Mimnagh and Emmet Masterson are to take over the duties of Club and Fixture secretaries.  Aine Vance was elected to replace outgoing Treasurer Frank Smith. The list of officers for 2016 is as follows: Chair: Michael Reilly, Vice Chair: Dermot Reilly, Secretary: James Mimnagh/Emmet Masterson, Assistant Secretary: John Duffy, Treasurer: Aine Vance, Assistant Treasurers: Gus McEntire and John Joe Donohoe, Co. Board Delegates: Gerry Mimnagh, John Duffy, Joe Murphy. Coaching officers: John McNaboe, Paul Hourican, Peter Darcy. PRO: Thomas Conefrey. Cultural Officers: Paul Hourican and Eamonn Kiernan, Child Officer: Susan Murphy (TBC), Health and Welfare Officer: Mary Reilly.

The new Chairman, Michael Reilly, thanked his predecessor Anthony Maguire for his hard work during his term of office and discussed some priorities for the coming year. The formation of a finance committee to oversee the Club’s fundraising activities, including the lotto, is to be explored. The club incurs significant costs each year to cover the range of activities provided at all levels and age groups and to maintain the Club’s excellent facilities. It is therefore vital to maintain a stable funding source for the Club into the future and to build on the success of the annual lotto initiative. The new Chair encouraged anyone interested in joining this committee to contact himself or any member of the executive.

Senior Team Manager for 2016: It was also announced at the AGM that Mark Heslin is to succeed Enda Macken as senior team manager for 2016.
