Club Notes for Friday 15th April 2016

Sympathy: Dromard GAA would like to extend its sympathy to the family of the late James Kiernan, Crott, who passed away suddenly at the weekend. The Club sends its condolences also to the family of Johnny Kiernan, Enaghan, Aughnacliffe, whose funeral took place recently.

Senior League Division 1, Dromard 1-6 Abbeylara 0-16: Dromard took on Abbeylara on Saturday evening last in round 2 of the senior league in Oliver Lynch Park. Despite putting in a battling performance, especially in the second half, an understrength Dromard were unable to overcome a well-drilled Abbeylara team who took their chances well. Dromard faced an uphill task when trailing by 7 points at the break, 9 points to 2, but the team showed good work rate in the second period and scored a deserved goal with ten minutes to play, following a well-worked move started by the quick-thinking Francis McGee. With another league fixture this Wednesday (details below), more improvement will be needed to earn valuable league points. Dromard lined out against Abbeylara as follows: Gavin McNerney, David Pettit, Diarmuid Masterson, Paul McGee, Kevin Donohoe, Peter Masterson, Michael Reilly, Bernard Sheridan, James Mimnagh, Bryan McCormack, Cian Mimnagh, Emmet Masterson, James Martin, Francis McGee, Peter Mimnagh. Subs: Declan Mimnagh, Niall McManus, Sean McNerney.

Senior League Division 3: Our Division 3 team played Granard in Higginstown on Sunday last in Round 2 and suffered a narrow defeat despite an improved performance from the Killoe game. Playing against a strong wind, Dromard trailed by a single point, 3 points to 2, after a low scoring first half. An early Granard goal extended the home team’s lead before a goal for Dromard by Conor Duffy narrowed the margin. A few late scores saw Granard claim the points but with a full panel hopefully available for upcoming games, Dromard can aim to get the campaign back on track. Team: Oisin Hourican, Ronan Smith, James Conefrey, Thomas Conefrey, Keith Masterson, Conor Duffy, Niall McManus, Martin McGee, John McNaboe, Jimmy Kiernan, Peter Mimnagh, Patrick Mimnagh, Peadar Kiernan.

Dromard Ladies Notes

Results: Senior Panel have so far played 2 Gold Cup games, the first being conceded by Ballymahon /Forgney and the second losing to St.Helens. The third round match v Killashee was unfortunately postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. In Div2 we have also played twice, beating Carrickedmond 2-14 to 3-5,and losing narrowly to Slashers 6-6 to 7-5.Our U/16 Panel have 3 matches played so far. The first had to be conceded to Mostrim through lack of numbers (we forgive you this time Ladies as it was Easter and some of you took the chance to be away). However Mostrim agreed a 10 a side challenge which ended in an entertaining draw, for which we thank them. The Easter break must have done some good as they bounced back with an easy win over St.Helens. A not so easy victory over Ballymore which in fairness could have gone either way at one stage but our girls saw it through for a 8-11 to 6-7 win. Our U/12 Panel have also started their Championship with 2 matches played, St.Helen's conceded to us and we then beat Killoe 0-0 to 4-8. So a positive start by all panels. Keep up the good work girls.

Training and Fixtures: Training continues as normal for all underage panels on Saturday mornings at 10:30am on the astroturf, although as soon as the weather allows we hope to get you working on grass. The Senior Panel vary training according to availability and Sean or Elaine will keep you all informed. It's good to see a good few of our U/16's training with the Senior Panel as well as coming Saturdays. Well done girls it will surely stand to you for the season.

Thurs 14 April U/16 Away to Killoe, Mairead will be in touch regarding time to be in Killoe. This is the last round for us as next week we have a bye,so a big effort girls to finish on a high.Sun 17 April Senior Panel away to Killashee in Gold cup. Sean willbe in touch about times to meet. Mon 18 April U/12 Home to St. Brigids...Laura will be in touch.

Strictly Dromard: As you are by now aware this takes place Fri 29th April in the Slieve Russell Hotel. Your Chairperson Bernie and Children's Officer Peggy are taking part with their respective partners Rosario and James, and some parents in our Ladies Club, namely Dads Paul Hourican, John Duffy and Kerry Waters and Mammys Lorna Hourican and Mary O'Reilly Farrell. There is a lot of effort going into this fundraiser so please sponsor and vote for any of us and come along on the night with your banners etc to cheer us all on. Tickets are available from any of us priced €20 and also sponsorship cards. It will be a great night, so don't miss out.

Birthdays: Only one to mention this week so Happy Birthday Aisling Farrell.

The team lined out as follows: Oisin Hourican, James Conefrey, Cathal Conefrey, Thomas Conefrey, Michael Reynolds, Ronan Smith, Alan McLaughlin, Sean McNerney, Martin McGee, John McNaboe, Peter Mimnagh, Jimmy Kiernan, Barry Smith, Donal Conefrey, Patrick Mimnagh.

Dromard Ladies Notes

Results/Fixtures: No club action this week for Dromard which was probably handy as the County Panels were all involved in matches far and wide from u/14 up to senior. Great credit should go to the managers and selectors of these panels as they ferry their charges the length and breadth of the country to give them a high level of competition. We should also thank our own players and their parents for the sacrifices they make to wear their county jersey. It is nice to see Dromard represented on u/14,u/16,Minor and Senior panels, and this can only do them good as they seek to become better players. Well done girls.

The underage Championships get underway this week. Thurs 24th March our u/16 panel are away to Mostrim. Please be togged out and on the pitch by 5pm girls ready for a 5.30pm throw in. Once again if there are any problems getting there, let her know asap so that she can find you a lift.

It would be much appreciated if the parents of these panels could make themselves available to help the managers on the day,as Laura and Bernie are now missing until Tues 5th April so we will be a bit short in the backroom staff department!!!

Birthday Greetings: We wish a very Happy Birthday to the following girls who will be celebrating in the next couple of weeks, bearing in mind there will be no notes due to holidays and we want to ensure that they get a mention. We only have one result to bring you this week from our Senior Div 2 match with Carrickedmond.Dromard  2-14 Carrickedmond  3-5. A report appears below.

Birthday Greetings: Two of our U/16 Panel share birthdays this coming week. So Happy Birthday to Alannah Reilly and Amy McLoughlin. No excuse to miss training though ladies!

Match Report: Our first Senior match of the season turned out to be quite an eventful day on Sunday last. Dromard started the game on the front foot scoring a goal and a point to C'Edmond's point until C'Edmond were awarded a penalty when Niamh Cooke hauled down her opposing player. This was only pointed over the bar but whilst we were enjoying this reprieve the match was turned on it's head. Galvanised by not taking full advantage of their penalty C'Edmond proceeded to rattle in three goals in quick succession to lead by 6 points at the break. Just prior to the break however came possibly the turning point of the match. Laura Bleakley who had been doing serious work in midfield sustained a serious blow to her nose resulting in the referee red carding her opponent. Whether this provided the impetus to Dromard for the second half we will never know but they played with renewed vigour, limiting their opponents to 1 point whilst scoring 1-10 to run out winners by 6 points. All in all it was a good tough match to get our season underway after the dissapointment of not playing last week and if the girls play with the same spirit and determination in every game the season should be half decent for them. We all wish Laura a speedy recovery. Team and Scorers:-  Amy McLoughlin,Niamh Cooke,Rachel Reilly,Laura Bleakley,Helen Conefrey (1-3 ),Shauna Reilly,Mairead Reynolds (0-1 ),Aedin Mimnagh (0-4 ),Cait Murphy (0-1 ),Chloe Connell,Rebecca Maguire (0-4 ),Doireann Mimnagh and Laura Martin (1-1 )  Used Sub Roisin Kiernan.

Underage Training: This continues as usual every Sat morning at 1000am on the astroturf for all our 8-16yr olds. Its good to see numbers keeping up evey week but don't forget to encourage your friends along. If they see you enjoying it they will as well if you can persuade them along. Just to say that while Laura is away on holiday for the next couple of weeks, parents won't be getting a reminder text, but sure why would you need one? It's surely the highlight of your week... how can you forget it!

Thanks and well done to James from all in the Club.

Missing Jersey Set: Someone has inadvertently stored a set of jerseys in their garage or elsewhere. Dromard Ladies Notes

Underage Training: Training continues as usual on the astroturf every Saturday at 10am for all girls from 8yrs to 16 yrs. We are showing an increase in numbers from last year so keep it up girls and don't forget to bring your friends as we can always welcome new members. For this very reason any more of our senior panel who can commit to this training for 1hr please feel free to come and help out. The young ones would love to see you.

Also this Saturday while your daughters are training hard, we will be running a short information course for all parents who would like to help out with our underage girls on match days. What needs to be done on any match day is not too demanding and if 2 or 3 parents are willing to help out with each underage panel, it frees up the managers to concentrate on their preparation. So once you have delivered your children safely to the astroturf tip up to the clubhouse and we will run through what needs to be done to make a match happen. Please come and get involved!

County Matters: Congratulations to Mairead and all her teammates on a facile victory down in Carlow at the weekend. This leaves just 2 more league matches to play, both at home as they strive for promotion to Div 3. Lets get behind this dedicated bunch and do the County proud. Although they have a rest from the action this coming weekend our U/14 and U/16 County Panels take up the cudgels against Kilkenny and Dublin respectively. We wish everybody involved including our own Karen McLoughlin,Shauna Hagan,Alannah Mulligan and Andrea Farrell the very best of luck.

Results/Fixtures: Our first competitive fixture of the season scheduled for last Sunday failed to materialise as Ballymahon/Forgney were unable to field a team. However never one to miss an opportunity, Elaine seized the chance to put the girls through a vigorous training session instead!

Now we look forward to welcoming Carrickedmond to Pairc Na Gael this Sunday for our first Div 2 match of the season. Throw in is at usual time of 12:30. All support is welcome

Easter Egg Draw: We have decided against running this fundraiser this year as at present the National School are selling sponsorship lines for their sponsored walk. Since all of our younger members will be involved with that it's not fair to keep going to the same people for our fundraising. However we do urge you to support this walk and sponsor any of our schoolgirls to raise funds for their school. We like to think that we complement each other in developing football in the parish and we would like to thank Mr.O'Rourke for training them and togging them out for matches. It is much appreciated by our club, and the girls couldn't wait to tell us all about their match with Stonepark last week when we all met up for training on Saturday morning.

Good Luck girls and keep that winning streak going!

Thanks to Grattans for thinking to ask Mairead as joint County Captain to attend their social night on Sunday last and present the medals to last season's U/16 Championship winning side. Comhgairdeas: Well done to our u16 amalgamation of St. Francis/St. Vincents (Na Naomh) who had a fantastic one point victory over Mullingar Shamrocks in their debut game in the Leinster league. Dromard Ladies Notes

Underage Training: At long last girls we will be back on the training pitch fo the coming season. From this Saturday all underage girls from the 8yr olds to the 16 yr olds are invited back to the Astroturf from 10:00am to 11:00am for an hour of fun and football with some of our senior panel training you. Spread the word at school and make sure everybody from last year returns, and also try to bring a few new faces along as well. You know we are a friendly bunch so try and encourage your friends to come and join us. For any parents of girls who will be turning 8 this year who would like to see how we run and what we are about, just tip along to the Astroturf at 10am this Saturday where you are sure of a warm welcome and your daughters are sure of an hours fun and games. We look forward to seeing everybody returning, and if you all bring the same enthusiasm as last year we are guaranteed another good season surely.

Senior/Minor Training: This is continuing apace with decent numbers at all sessions. It is especially good to see some of our Mammys at these sessions and we hope you are getting a lot of enjoyment from it. From what we have seen some of you are still good enough to make the Panel !!!

Apology: In last week's notes I wrote that Dromard had no representation on the County U/14 Panel. Big mistake,as of course we have Karen McLoughlin and Shauna Hagan on that Panel. Hard Luck girls at the weekend against Offaly where I am told the wind won out on the day, making it almost impossible to get up the field. Still take heart from a good first half where you were six points up before finally succumbing to a good Offaly side.

Birthdays: Only one to my knowledge this week and that is Emer Brady from our U/10 Panel who turns 9 first week in March.Happy Birthday Emer and don't forget to ask all your friends who might not yet have played football to come on Saturday and give it a try.

Congratulations: Well done to our Joint Senior Club Captain Mairead Reynolds on being made Longford County Captain. This is a great honour for herself and Dromard and is great reward for all the hours she puts in both on and off the field not only with her own panels but also with all the underage children at training and matches. Always one to shy away from the limelight we just want to say how much all our young ones look up to you and this honour could not befall a nicer person. Well done Mairead from all in Dromard.

Dromard Ladies Notes

Training: This continues for Senior and Minor Panels plus Mammys and non players who just wish to keep fit. However there is a change to the schedule from this week please note.Tuesdays will stay the same 9pm to 10 pm,but due to a lack of space on Fridays we are moving to Saturday evenings from 6pm to 7pm.The good news for those who prefer outdoor work to the gym is that we will be outside on the astroturf, and if you are well behaved we might even let you kick some footballs !!!

In answer to all the girls who keep asking when does our training start, our underage panels from 8yrs old to 16yrs old will be starting on Sat 27th Feb. We are not sure what time yet so keep looking in the notes and we will text you all as well. New members are always welcome,so just ask your classmates for details, or if you are only turning 8yrs old this year and wish to join us we will be pleased to see you and guarantee you a fun filled year both on and off the pitch.Ring Chairperson Bernard 0873540795,Training Officer Mary 0868158899 or Underage Co-ordinator Laura 0864068323 if you have any questions at all and let’s get as many girls as possible involved in Dromard Ladies.

Before that, however the Minor Panel are home to Kilkenny including Cait Murphy and Rachel O'Reilly, and the U/14 Panel have their first outing of the year at home to Offaly. Both matches are down for decision this Sat 20th Feb so please support our Seniors of tomorrow. At present Dromard have no girls on the U/14 panel, although we know that some of you are well able for it.It is never too late, so if you feel you wish to commit to your County for the season ask any of the club officers and they will put you in touch with the right people. It would be nice to see Dromard represented on every County Panel and so it's over to you girls.

Coppers for Cailini: The collection boxes for this on-going fundraiser are still placed in Corrigan's Stores and Moyne Stores, so if you wish to get rid of your 1c and 2c coins before they are withdrawn we will be happy to take them from you.
