Our parish and club had close links to the Dublin hurling team’s historic Leinster final win on Sunday last.  Goalkeeper, Gary Maguire who made numerous outstanding saves is son of Hugh Ollie Maguire formerly of Legga while forward, Shane Durkin is son of Thomas Durkin formerly of Crott.  Well done to both players and their teammates on bridging the 52 years gap since the Bob O’Keefe cup went to the capital.  In a very fitting gesture, Longford's own and current Leinster Council Chairman Martin Skelly allowed the goalkeeper from the winning '61 Jimmy Gray to present the trophy to current captain Johnny McCaffrey.  Jimmy also has very strong Dromard connections; his father was born and reared in Moyne where he still has many relations. Best of luck to Longford who play Wexford this Saturday in Pearse Park.  Both counties have played each other on a regular basis over the last couple of years and have given supporters many great matches. We hope again that it will be another entertaining encounter and hope Longford can come out on top and progress to the next round. Preparations are currently under way for the Dromard 4 Schools Reunion which takes place from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th August as part of The Gathering 2013 festivities.
