Division 3:  Dromard 2-11 Longford Slashers 4-14: Our Division 3 team took on Longford Slashers in Pairc Na nGael on Friday evening last in the final game of this year’s league campaign. Longford Slashers got off to a flying start with an early goal and led by 1-5 to 2 points mid way through the first half. Danny Petit pulled off a great save in the early stages to prevent Dromard falling further behind. A fine goal from Gary Maguire following good work by Peter Mimnagh brought Dromard back into the game, with the team trailing by just 4 points at the break. On the resumption, Dromard enjoyed their best phase of the game and reduced the margin to just a single point mid way through the second half. A great catch and run down the centre of the field by Noel Reynolds created the opening for Gary Maguire to score a second Dromard goal and this was followed by an excellent point from play by Peadar Kiernan. With Longford Slashers more clinical in finishing their goal-scoring scoring chances, they pulled away in the final stages of the game. Nonetheless, this was a good hard-working performance by Dromard in advance of the junior championship commencing shortly. Team: Danny Petit: Thomas Conefrey, Ronan Smith, James Conefrey, Padraig McNerney, Michael Reilly, Alan McLoughlin, Neil Cosgove, Noel Reynolds, Niall McManus, Peadar Kiernan, John McNaboe, Gary Maguire, Peter Mimnagh, Patrick Mimnagh. Subs: Martin McGee, Brendan McLoughlin.

Senior Championship: The senior championship begins this weekend with Dromard taking on neighbours Fr Manning Gaels on Saturday evening (18th July) in Emmet Park at 6.15pm. Best of luck to the players and management. Your support for the team on Saturday is greatly appreciated as we aim to get our campaign off to a positive start.

Longford Seniors: Commiserations to the Longford senior footballers on their defeat to Kildare on Saturday evening last, bringing to an end Longford’s 2015 season. The club would like to acknowledge and thank our four representatives on the county team, Diarmaid Masterson, Ronan McEntire, Francis McGee and Ross McNerney for their dedication and commitment to Longford since the start of the season. Our players represented the club with distinction all year and made important contributions to securing Longford’s promotion to division 3 and in the five championship games played since May.

Talk the Walk: Thanks to all the Dromard Gaels who took part in the recent Talk the Walk 5k event in Aid of the Samartins.
