The Community-Well-a-thon committee have invited motivational speaker Gerry Duffy, author of 'Who Dares, Runs', and winner of the DECA Enduroman challenge in 2011 having completed 32 marathons in 32 days in 2010, to deliver a presentation in the Breffni Arms Arva on Monday 3rd Sept 2012 at 9pm . His is a remarkable story of courage and inspiration and one which we hope you will come along to hear for yourselves. The objective of the presentation that evening is to demonstrate that if you believe in yourself you can achieve great success be it at sport or whatever other goal or challenge you set for yourself. Admission on the night is €5 and your support would be very much appreciated. On Thursday last our seniors travelled to Emmet Park to play Fr. Manning Gaels in the last group game of the senior championship. Both teams had to contend with driving rain from start to finish. We played into a slight breeze in the opening half. It was the Gaels who opened the scoring and went 2 points ahead. James Martin opened our account but it was our neighbours who had the better of the exchanges for most of the opening period and went in at half time leading on the scoreline of Dromard 0-06 Fr. Manning Gaels 0-08. The second half saw our players raise their game and pick off points to move into the lead. We had a few late scares when the Gaels came close with goal chances on a couple of occasions. We got a late goal from the attacking Díarmuid Masterson which left the score at full time Dromard 1-14 Fr. Manning Gaels 0-9. Team and scorers; Damien Sheridan, Peadar Faughnan, Cathal Conefrey, John Sheridan, Peter Reynolds, Díarmuid Masterson, Padraig McNerney, Noel Reynolds, Bernard Sheridan, Donal Sheridan, Cían Mimnagh (0-03), Declan Mimnagh, James Martin (0-5) 1 free, Francis McGee (0-6) 1 free, Gary Maguire. Subs used; Peter Masterson and Emmet Masterson. Other subs available were Gavin McNerney, Enda McEntire, James Mimnagh, Michael Reilly, Kieran McStay, Kevin Kane and Conor Kiernan. This left us finishing 6th in the table and means we will play the 3rd placed team which is Colmcille. This Tuesday sees our juniors play their last group game of the junior championship when we travel to Monaduff to take on Fr. Manning Gaels. We are also scheduled to play Colmcille in Fr. McGee Park in a Div. 3 league game this coming Sunday at 2pm. A club meeting will take place on Monday next at 9pm following the weekly lotto draw. The All Ireland Senior Hurling final takes place on Sunday 9th September. The club have a number of tickets available and any fully paid up member who is interested in being included in a draw for a chance to buy a ticket should attend the meeting on Monday night or give their name to any of the following, Joe Murphy 0871340132, Willie Healy 0870623673, Marian Maguire 0879824136 or Eamonn Kiernan 0861060675. The first 20 fully paid up members in with the €20 entry will be included in the draw to buy these tickets, with the €20 entry being deducted from the price of the ticket. This nomination is in recognition of Peter's involvement in numerous voluntary activities at local and county level and is thoroughly deserved.
