Club Notes for Friday 28th February 2014

We would like to extend hearty congratulations to senior team player Jamsie Martin who was married to Brenda Kearney on Saturday last. We wish Jamsie and Brenda all the best for a long happy life together.

 

AGM: Our AGM was help last Sunday the 23rd. Full details next week.

 

Tickets: The €10 tickets for the Croke Park National Draw are still on sale. It’s important to note all proceeds go to the club, so if you would like to contribute by buying a ticket or selling a book it would be greatly appreciated, contact 087 2482055 or 087 1340132 for tickets. We are hoping to wrap this up at next week’s club meeting as the draw takes place shortly, so please return all tickets and money by then. Prizes include various trips to Australia, Boston, New York, All Ireland Hurling and Football final tickets, just to mention a few. Please support.

 

Team Management: We are currently looking to put together team managers, coaches, selectors, first aid, referees, etc. Very interested in hearing from anyone who would like to contribute in anyway, please contact 086 8097547 or any club officer.

 

Training: Training for all panels starts this week on Tuesday and Fridays at 8pm, very important that all Reserve Leagues and Junior Players start training with leagues starting imminently.

 

Ladies: Well done to the Dromard Senior Ladies who beat Clonguish in the first round of the Gold Cup on Sunday last in Dromard on a score line of 6-07 to 1-03. A great start for Paul McEntire who has joined Nikki O'Hara as part of the management team setup, best wish to them and the team in the year ahead. Hard luck to the Longford Senior Ladies team and our representative Michelle Kilkenny who lost away to Armagh in the 3rd round of the National League on a score line of 3-12 to 1-08.

 

Leinster U21: Well done to the Longford team on their opening round draw against Westmeath. Ross McNerney, who unfortunately didn't start due to a hand injury, came on in the second half and played his role in what was an all-round fine team performance. Best wishes to Ross, the team and management in the replay this Wednesday night the 26th Feb in St Lomans's at 7:30pm.

 

Longford Schools Coaching: Thursday the 27th sees the first year boys from Moyne CS attend to play Péile the GAA’s new indoor game aimed at improving fitness, ball handling and special awareness.

 

Longford Minor Board Coaching Survey: Survey closing date this Friday the 28th February. In help  improve coaching, please complete the County Board Coaching Online Survey which can be found by searching online for the words "Longford GAA Survey" In addition to providing your valuable input,  clubs with 15 responders will be entered into a draw with free passes to all club championship matches in Longford plus a €200 voucher for the club.

Longford Award 1 Child Foundation Coaching Course: Aimed at coaches of teams at U12 and below. Planned to be ran over seven nights in St. Mels College Hall on the 6th, 10th, 13th, 20th & 27th of March as well as the 3rd & 10th of April. Contact 087 9126556 to book and to pay the deposit of €50 with the remaining €50 paid before the 1st session.

 

Longford Senior Scor Table Quiz: On March the 7th at 8pm a table quiz will take place in Arás Uí Bhriain, Pearse Park, Longford, where a large club representation is expected on the night as the winners will qualify directly to represent Longford in the All Ireland finals in April. Anyone who would like to organise a club team or to participate please make their names known to the Irish and Culture Officer, Peter Masterson on 0833051786.

 

Lotto results for Monday 17th February 2014. The numbers drawn were 4, 14, 22 and 24. There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the draw were Laurence Cosgrove, Sarah Rehill, Bridie McCabe and Christina Hourican. The seller's prize was won by Marian Maguire.

 

Sympathy: We would like to extend our sympathy to Michael Masterson, Cornakelly on the death of his uncle, Bill O’Driscoll in Midleton, Co Cork recently. We also express sincere sympathy to Marguerite Kilgarriff and her family, Ballygar, Co Galway and the extended Donohoe family Dromard, Moyne, on the tragic death of Paul Kilgarriff at a young age while on holidays in Austria.
