The past week saw loyal and dedicated club member Michael McShane pass to his eternal reward. Michael enjoyed a long life, one that was associated with the Dromard club right up to the end. Michael was an energetic player who lined out on our teams for many years. He also served as a team selector in the years that followed. No matter if it was an underage or a senior club game staged in either J J Donohoe Park or Pairc na Gael Michael's tractor would be sure to arrive to lend his support. He would also be a regular attender at training sessions for the various teams in our club. He had a great understanding of the game and his analysis of games and players always made for interesting conversation. Michael drew great satisfaction from the day to day affairs at our pitches where his presence will be sadly missed. On Friday our reserve league 1 panel travel to Allen Park to take on Clonguish in our third outing in this competition. Pitch conditions were good and both teams provided a very good hour football in the chilly night air. The home side kicked the opening three points of the game. Our response was two points from play from Enda Macken. Clonguish re-established a three point lead by adding a brace from play. Gary Maguire narrowed the margin to two when he pointed from play to leave the half time score Dromard 0-03 Clonguish 0-05. Dermot Reilly pointed from played on the turnover which was cancelled out by a point from our opponents. Dromard were able to enjoy a good period of possession that resulted in three points to lead by one. Clonguish fought back with two points to retake the lead. Emmet Masterson levelled again before we fell behind by what looked like a decisive Colin Clarke point. However Dermot Reilly kicked a fine long range effort in what turned out to be the last of the night's action. The full time score was Dromard 0-09 Clonguish 0-09. Team and scorers; Gavin McNerney, Ronan Smith, James Mimnagh, James Conefrey, Mícheál Reilly, Peter Reynolds, Niall McManus, Noel Reynolds, Enda McEntire, Dermot Reilly (0-03), Emmet Masterson (0-01), Donal Sheridan, Enda Macken (0-02), Peter Mimnagh, Gary Maguire (0-03) 1 free. On Sunday our reserve league 3 panel played Shroid in Pairc na Gael. This was a close and entertaining encounter that saw our team give a very good performance. Assisted by the first half breeze we led on the scoreline of Dromard 2-2 Shroid 0-02. We extended our lead with a Niall Berry goal early in the second half. The visitors battled their way back into it picking off their scores. Despite further points and great determination by our team defeat was our lot on this occasion. Great credit goes to all players who gave it their all on the day. Best of luck to the u21 panel and management in the Leinster final this Wednesday. Best wishes to Longford senior in their next round of the National league this weekend.
