As reported last week our annual 5km event took place on Sunday 24th November and while all participants were met with a tough course it didn't prevent them registering some fine times with many of those returning this year pleased that they had improved on last year’s performances.  Claiming first prize by the narrowest of margins was Paddy Sharkey of Longford A.C., with Niall Nerney, also Longford A.C. taking second place and 3rd prize went to Sean Prunty former Longford Town player of note.  In the Ladies race Helen Conefrey finished strongly to take 1st place ahead of Longford A.C. members Shona Matthews and Helen Harte taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively.  In the Junior section Sarah Murphy ran an excellent race to take first prize and Daniel Hayden from Ardagh took the accolade in the Junior Boys category with Jason Grimes a matter of seconds behind. In the local event Peter Reilly raced to the finish line to secure the trophy this year (taking 2mins off his previous time for this course) and Helen Conefrey claimed the Ladies trophy. Running in a time of 20.06 in his first 5k event James Martin deservedly claimed the 2nd local place and likewise running her first 5k event Roisin Donohoe took the prize for 2nd local lady home.
